We have had the privilege of serving Central Virginia for over 35 years. We strive to be good stewards in our community and give back in any way we can. Below are a some of the organizations we have contributed to.
Our Rainwater Harvesting System:
Man-made ponds at James River Nurseries efficiently capture and store rainwater and surface runoff, providing an independent water supply, particularly crucial during extreme dry conditions. As part of our commitment to environment-friendly practices, this rainwater, free from fluorides or chlorines, is then distributed to plants on the property via an irrigation system. Moreover, the company also employs Bio-Filters and Best Management Practices (BMPs) to control storm-water runoff and mitigate pollution. Landscaping, which serves both aesthetic and functional purposes, plays a pivotal role in capturing and degrading pollutants.
Our Recycled Mulch Process:
The principle of recycling is further implemented in the way we utilize mulch. All plant debris and cuttings are repurposed, with our supplier turning this waste into nutrient-rich, 100% recycled mulch, dyed to our preference, and ready to beautify another site. Further extending our green thumb, we possess the expertise to install green roof systems, which enhance aesthetics, conserve energy, and reduce urban heat islands among other benefits. Lastly, our well-designed landscaping plans can cut energy costs by up to 20% in the summer, according to the EPA, by using deciduous plants and trees for effective solar radiation interception and insulation.
