James River Nurseries is proud to have been a part of the monumental landscaping project for the new Virginia ABC Headquarters and Warehouse in Hanover County. This state-of-the-art facility, nestled on a sprawling 40-acre site near the intersection of Pole Green Road and I-295, marks a significant upgrade in the operations and logistics of the Virginia ABC.

A New Era for Virginia ABC

The new headquarters features a massive 315,000 square-foot warehouse and a 95,000 square-foot office building, which will host approximately 500 of Virginia ABC's 4,000 employees. This impressive complex will replace the aging Virginia ABC Headquarters on Hermitage Road near the Diamond, which has been in use for 50 years. The previous facility, occupying about 20 acres, had a warehouse just slightly larger than 295,000 square feet.

The move to a larger, more modern facility aligns with the Virginia ABC's need to scale its operations in response to the rapid growth of both ABC stores and the burgeoning craft beverage industry. By expanding the size and scope of their operations, the Virginia ABC is well-positioned to enhance its distribution capabilities and better serve its customers across the state.

Our Landscaping Vision

At James River Nurseries, we approached this project with a commitment to creating a landscape that would complement the modern architecture and extensive footprint of the new headquarters. Our team meticulously planned and executed the landscaping to ensure it not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the facility but also integrates seamlessly with its functional requirements.

The landscape design includes a variety of native plants and sustainable elements that provide year-round beauty and require minimal maintenance. Strategic placement of trees and shrubs creates natural shade and windbreaks, contributing to energy efficiency for the buildings. Additionally, well-designed walkways and outdoor spaces offer employees a pleasant environment for breaks and outdoor activities.

The Future of the Hermitage Road Property

As Virginia ABC transitions to its new headquarters, the much-coveted Hermitage Road property will undergo a transformation of its own. Plans are in place for Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) to develop a new athletic village on the site. This future facility is set to include 18 tennis courts, multiuse courts, a soccer field and practice field, as well as indoor and outdoor tracks. The redevelopment promises to breathe new life into the area and provide VCU students and athletes with top-notch sports facilities.

A Proud Contribution to Virginia's Progress

Being part of the development of the new Virginia ABC Headquarters is a testament to James River Nurseries' dedication to contributing to the growth and enhancement of our community. We take pride in our work and the opportunity to create landscapes that not only beautify spaces but also support the functionality and sustainability of major projects.
