On October 15, 2013, a significant milestone was achieved for the Richmond community and cycling enthusiasts. Mayor Dwight C. Jones, members of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation, and other officials gathered at Great Shiplock Park to celebrate the grand opening of the western trailhead for the Virginia Capital Trail. This event marks the beginning of a journey that will ultimately stretch approximately 53 miles, connecting Richmond to Williamsburg, offering a scenic and functional route for cyclists, pedestrians, and outdoor enthusiasts.

The Virginia Capital Trail is more than just a bike path; it's a transformative project aimed at enhancing one of Richmond's most beautiful riverfront destinations. The downtown portion of the trail is scheduled to be completed next summer, with the entire trail set to be finished in time for Richmond to host the prestigious International Cycling Union Road World Championships in 2015. This trail is set to become a vital asset for the region and a point of pride for the entire Commonwealth of Virginia.

James River Nurseries is proud to have been one of several donors supporting the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation. Our involvement reflects our commitment to contributing to projects that enhance the community and promote a healthy, active lifestyle. We believe in the vision of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation and are honored to have played a part in bringing this vision to life.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Jill Nolt and Jay Hugo of 3north for inviting us to contribute to this remarkable project. Their leadership and dedication have been instrumental in realizing this significant enhancement to our region's infrastructure. The Virginia Capital Trail is more than just a pathway; it represents a commitment to sustainability, connectivity, and community well-being.

The trailhead at Great Shiplock Park is just the beginning. As the trail extends and connects more of our beautiful landscapes, it will offer endless opportunities for recreation, tourism, and economic growth. The trail is poised to become a cherished landmark, attracting visitors from near and far and fostering a greater appreciation for our region's natural beauty.

James River Nurseries is dedicated to supporting initiatives that bring lasting value to our community. The Virginia Capital Trail is a testament to what can be achieved when public and private sectors come together with a shared vision. We look forward to seeing the trail completed and fully operational, offering a safe and enjoyable route for all who wish to experience the wonders of Virginia's landscapes.
